Built around 1891 to house the lock keeper and toll collector of the
Dudley No1 canal, owned by the Birmingham Canal Navigation company (BCN).
By the mid 1950’s, boat traffic was slowly declining
and by the early 1960’s, canals were abandoned and fell into disrepair. There
was no longer any need for a lock keeper and the cottage became the home of
various families, up to the present day.
My husband Steve and myself, moved here in !992. since we first moved in, various
people come to talk to us about their memories of the cottage and canal and slowly,, but surely, we have unravelled the history of our home.
